Young Writers' Club
A creative writing programme run by tutors trained in the Writing Process.

The Young Writers' Club is organised by the Foundation for Educational Services. Children from Year 4 up
to Form 2 are encouraged to attend this programme run by tutors who have been trained in the Writing Process.

The aim of the club is to encourage children to extend and develop their creative writing skills in Maltese and
English through the use of the writing process.
At the same time, parallel sessions will be held for parents wishing to learn how to help their children develop their writing skills.

The club is made up of ten sessions including the introductory session. The duration of each session is of two hours. At the end of the programme there will be an exhibition and a celebration where the children share their writing experience with their parents and guests. Participants who attend regularly will be given a
Certificate of Participation.

Day /Time:

Option A :
Fridays from 7th November 2008 till 30th January 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Option B :
Saturdays from 8th November 2008 till 31st January 2009 from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

Duration: 10 sessions (including preliminary meeting)

Venue: National Curriculum Centre, Maria Assumpta School Complex, Ħamrun

Fee: 38EUR per child, 38EUR per accompanying parents

Applicants must be able to read and write well in both Maltese and English.

The Parents Writing Club will run only on Fridays. If the required number of participants in each group is not
reached the club might be cancelled.

The closing date for the applications is Friday 31st October 2008. Payment can be made by cheque payable

Music Morning/ Evening Courses
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce will be organising the 1st Term (October - December) Morning / Evening Courses in Music between the second week of October and December 2008. All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, from Monday to Saturday. The morning sessions are held between 9.00am and 11.00am or noon, and the evening sessions between 4.30pm and 7.30pm. Music courses will take between 45 minutes and 60 minutes each session. Anyone over 6 years of age can apply for these courses. Courses fee is €38.

Courses will be held in the following subjects: Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, Pianoforte (Pre-Grade and Grade 1 to 5), Violin and Theory of Music.

Art and Craft Morning/Evening Courses
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce will be organising the 1st Term (October-December) Morning / Evening Courses in Art and Crafts between the second week of October and December 2008. All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, from Monday to Saturday. The morning sessions are held between 8.30am and 12.30pm or noon, and the evning sessions between 4.30pm and 7.30pm, once a week. Each course will run over ten sessions of two hours each session, once a week. Anyone over 6 years of age can apply for these courses. Courses fee is 21 euros.

Courses will be held in the following subjects:

ARTS: Art, Art 50+, Clay Sculpture, Floral Art, History of ART, Modern Floral Design and Stone Sculpture, Manga Art. Also the Portrait & Figure Drawing & Painting (different fee).

CRAFTS: Beading, Bridal Bouquets, Cottage Craft, Crochet, Dress Making (Cutting Out), Embroidery, Embroidery in Gold, Filigree, Ganutell, Gilding, Interior Design, Knitting, Malta Lace, Model Making, Monastery, Needle Handcrafts, Parchment Craft, Plastic Canvas, Soft Furnishing, Quilling, Tailoring, Knitting, Wood Carving, Xmas Cards/Decorations on Parchment

OTHER COURSES: Crib Building, Maltese for Foreigners, History of Malta and Television Drama.

Course on Portrait and Figure Painting and Drawing
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will again be organizing a course on Portrait and Figure painting and drawing under the professional guidance of well-known artist Eman Grima. The Course will run over ten sessions of two and a half hours each sessions (5.30pm to 8.00pm) and will start in October. Participation is restricted to a limited number of artists and as the course has been consistently full participants are urged to book early. The participation fee for all ten sessions is 70 euros for Society Members and €94 for non-members.
