Miniature Figure Painting Course
|
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be introducing a course aimed for beginners in the hobby of painting and constructing scale model figures, both historical and fantasy subjects. It will include the basics of construction, preparation, and painting of figurines made of various materials including white metal, plastics and resin. Topics will range from the various tools, to reference books, materials, adhesives, brushes and their proper use and care, as well as the various types of paint available to the modeller.
Participants will be introduced to the various types and scales of model figures on the market, such as “round” and “flat” figures as well as busts. The different styles for painting historical, fantasy and science-fiction subjects will also feature in the course. One of the areas covered will include the correct use of highlights and shadows to obtain lighting effects. The making of scenic bases will also be included. These enhance the display of model figures and give them a sense of purpose as well as of historical period and geographical location. The course will include “hands on” demonstrations of the main topics being covered.
The Course will start in October and will consist of a eight two hour lessons, every Wednesday for eight weeks. The cost of the course is €17.

Soft Furnishing and Cottage Crafts
|
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be organizing a courses in Soft Furnishing and Cottage Craft. The Soft Furnishing Course will concentrate mainly on curtain making. The course will consist of both theory and practice and will cover about 100 valances and pelmets in different styles and will vary from classic to rustic, modern or cottage. Participants will learn how to draw up the patterns themselves and will also learn how much material is needed and what measurements would be required. Participants do not need to know how to sew.
The Cottage Craft Course consists in learning how to decorate various items such as frames, jewel boxes, baskets and other items for particular occasions such as Christmas, Weddings and Easter. The cost of the course is €21 for ten lessons.
