Courses on Stone and Clay Sculpture.

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be organizing various courses on Stone Sculpture and on Clay Sculpture. The Stone Sculpture courses will be run by the well known sculpture Charles Bonnici. The Course has two levels, beginners and Intermediate. The students will be introduced to the tools required and the practice of the ins and outs of sculpture techniques. They will produce a detailed work from rough stone. They will use drawing and full size patterns and will be constantly advised and monitored.
The Clay Sculpture Course will cover the following projects and is for beginners: Pinch pots, Coil Jars, Slab Work, Relief with Clay, Drawing on Clay, Modeling a Human Bust, Modeling a Human Figure, Abstract Sculpture in Clay, Making a Relief Mould with Clay and Plaster.
The cost of each Course is €37.27 and will run over nine sessions of three hours each session, once a week between 8.30 am and 11.30 am. . THE CULTURE OF FOOD IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
|
The Institute of Tourism Studies in conjunction with Mediterranean Cultural Encounters Ltd is holding an evening course for the summer months on the culture and history of Mediterranean food. “The Culture of Food in the Mediterranean” is based on the publication that was recently launched by Mediterranean Cultural Encounters Ltd entitled Eating Through Time: The Culture of Food in the Mediterranean. The text was written by Prof. Carmel Cassar and the accompanying set of prints, which were inspired by the text itself, were created by artist Anton Calleja.
The course will consist of 10 lectures and two demonstrations on the culinary preparation of food. The lectures will be conducted by Noel Buttigieg, assistant head of school at Verdala International College, who is reading for a Ph.D in Cultural Studies.
Demonstration sessions will be conducted by chef/lecturer Philip Cauchi. Lectures and demonstration sessions will be held at the Institute of Tourism Studies every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm between 1 July and 31 August and there will be a three-week break between 1 and 18 August. Lectures will resume on 19 August and end on 28 August.
On registration, participants will receive a study pack comprising the publication Eating Through Time: The Culture of Food in the Mediterranean; the lecture modules, selected readings; and two PowerPoint presentations by Slow Food on CD. There will be two demonstrations/tasting sessions.
A certificate of proficiency/attendance will be awarded to the participants. The price is € 250 (all inclusive) payable on application.

Summer Music Courses

MUSIC COURSES ORGANISED BY THE MALTA SOCIETY OF ARTS, MANUFACTURES & COMMERCE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce will again be organising the popular Summer Courses in music between mid-July and mid-September. All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta. The Courses are open to everyone over the age of 6.
Music Courses will be held in the following subjects: Guitar, Pianoforte, Violin, (Pre-Grade and Grade 1 to 5), and Theory of Music, all in the morning and Clarinet on Thursday evening. The cost of each course is €37.27 and will run over nine sessions, once a week.

Summer Craft Courses

CRAFT COURSES ORGANISED BY THE MALTA SOCIETY OF ARTS, MANUFACTURES & COMMERCE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce will again be organising the Summer Morning Courses in Crafts between mid-July and mid-September 2008. All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, in the morning, including Saturdays.
Courses will be held in the following craft subjects: Glass Painting, Parchment Crafts, Beading, Cottage Craft, Crochet, Dress Making and Cutting Out, Embroidery, Embroidery in Gold, Filigree, Ganutell, Knitting, Malta Lace, Mixed Crafts (Candles and Decoupage), Monastery, Needle Handcrafts, Soft Furnishing, Tailoring and Hansa. The cost of each course is €37.27 and will run over 9 sessions of three hours each session for 9 consecutive weeks, between 8.30 am and 11.30 am.
