Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is organizing two new courses this coming summer.
Christmas Crib Building Course....... One course is a ‘Practical Course on Christmas Crib Building’ and is being run in co-operation with the Ghaqda Hbieb Tal-Presepju (Malta). The Course will run for six sessions of 2 -3 hours duration for each session. The Course will be conducted by Mr. Charles Belia who is the Secretary/PRO of the Ghaqda Hbieb Tal-Presepju (Malta). The Course will start on Saturday 22nd July at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta. Participants will learn about the crib in Malta, how to build such cribs, accessories such as buildings, lights, trees, etc and also how to make pasturi.
Model Ship Building Course........
Another Course, which will start on Saturday 15th July, but this time at the Malta Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa, is a ‘Model Ship Building Course’. This will run over nine sessions of two hours each session and is being run with the cooperation of the Malta Maritime Museum. This course will be conducted by Mr Joe Abela who is the Model Ship Builder at the Malta Maritime Museum. Participants will learn how to build a wooden model ship from scratch.

YOUTH STUDIES PROGRAMME
|
THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MALTA notifies that The Degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) -Youth and Community Studies will open this year.
Introduction
The Degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Youth and community Studies aims to meet the needs of organisations and individuals with experience in the service of youth and those who are seeking a training opportunity to develop the delivery of the service.
Prospective youth and community workers, whether experienced or not, will have the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and knowledge in preparation for a range of different youth settings. Moreover, candidates are encouraged to adopt ongoing evaluation processes and research as an essential positive characteristic of their practice.
Youth and Community Workers are qualified to work in a wide range of settings: The community and local councils Streets, clubs, project work - animation in art and music, leisure, sports, the outdoors, thematic events and activities; Schools and university - personal, social and political education; Specific institutions and problem areas - addictions, juvenile delinquency, issues related to adolescent development
The main challenges taken up by the Youth Studies Programme include:
a. the provision of a broad-based course of academic studies and fieldwork experience; b. the promotion of non-formal education and its recognition; and c. the acquisition of a professional status for youth and community workers.

OPPORTUNITY FOR VOLUNTARY WORK
|
Would you like to do something worthy with your spare time? Would you like to make a difference in someone else’s life?
For the past 10 years, Agenzija APPOGG has offered the Supportline 179 service to the public, with the aim to provide information, assistance, crisis intervention and referrals to other services.
This 24-hour service is available to both children and adults, with over 104,000 genuine calls dealt with in the first 10 years.
Volunteers are now needed to be part of the already strong team of professional staff and volunteers who dedicate their time to offer this service.
Applicants need to be: - 21 years old and over - computer literate - willing to learn - of sound moral values - fluent in both Maltese and English - willing to work evenings and weekends.
Training and ongoing professional support will be provided.

Balzan Day - Commemmorating Dr. Paul Cassar
|
The Balzan Local Council together with M.A.M. will be organizing an activity to commemmorate Dr. Paul Cassar, MD,DPM,FRHistS(Lond), at Aurora Hall, Main Street, Balzan on the 22nd April 2006 at 7.00pm as part of the activities to make Balzan Day.
As part of the Balzan Day activities the Council honours persons, who, contributed to the wellbeing of residents and/or the locality and/or made a name for themselves or the locality over the years.
This year, the Council decided to bestow the honour on Mr. Jesmond Giordimaina for his participation in sports on an international level and on Mr. Frank Monreal for the promotion of sports with Balzan children through the Balzan Youths Football Nursery.
The Mayor will present a gold lapel badge and certificate to the persons being honoured at the close of the activity to commemorate Dr. Paul Cassar, who was himself given the same honour in February 1999.
On Sunday, 23rd April 2006 a Thanksgiving Mass will be held at 8.30am at the Balzan Parish Church following the raising of the Balzan flag in the presence of the Mayor and Council members in the village square.
Everyone is welcome to attend the activities to mark Balzan Day.
