Crib Building Course during the Summer
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce in co-operation with the Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju (Malta) is organizing a course on Christmas Crib Building. The course will be run by Mr Charles Bellia, the Secretary of the GhHP (Malta); every Saturday between 9.30am and 11.30am for ten consecutive weeks at the Society’s premises, Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, starting in October.

The Sessions will include introduction, history and evolution of the crib in Malta, planning design, style, perspective, proportions and materials, frame, planned buildings, additional items, rubble walls, manufacturing accessories such as palm trees, doors, gates, lanterns etc, colouring, lights installation and also how to make pasturi. The sessions are all practical, with hands on experience with a crib being produced at the end of the course. Participants will be advised on the first day what material will be required.

Course on Portrait and Figure Painting & Drawing
The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will again be organizing a course on Portrait and Figure painting and drawing under the professional guidance of well-known artist Eman Grima. The course will be held every Thursday between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. The course will run over nine sessions of two hours each at Palazzo de La Salle, Valletta and will start in October. Participation is restricted to a limited number of artists and as the course has been consistently full participants are urged to book early. If the response is satisfactory another course will be organized every Wednesday on the same basis. The participation fee for all nine sessions is €70.

8th National Art Competition and Exhibition
The Malta Society of Arts Manufactures and Commerce is now accepting applications for the 8th National Art Competition and Exhibition co-sponsored by Art Academy and Faber-Castell. The event will be taking place between the 1st and 23rd October 2009 at the Society’s premises; Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta.

Artists can apply with a maximum of two pieces of work each which will go before a panel of judges for selection. Prize money this year, which is sponsored by Art Academy and Faber-Castell is Eur500 for first prize, Eur260 for second prize with a third prize of Eur160. Ten Honourable Mentions will also be awarded plus a participation certificate for all artists with exhibited works. Notification has already been forwarded to Society Members, non-members are very welcome to apply, an application form and competition regulations can obtained from Palazzo de La Salle, Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 1.00pm.
