John Zammit Montebello was born
on 26th January 1963. He was educated at Stella Maris
School, Balzan, St. Aloysius College, B'kara, Upper
Secondary Sixth Form and the University of Malta
Medical School where he graduated as a Medical Doctor
in 1987. On a training attachment with St. George's
Hospital, London Dr. Montebello also specialised
in substance abuse and the treatment of people with
such problems.
John Zammit Montebello first contested the local Council
elections in 1996. He also contested the elections
in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2008. He was elected Mayor
in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2008.
John is the Chairman of the sub-committee responsible
for Social Policy, Education, The Environment and EU
together with Councillor Trevor De Giorgio. The sub-committee
is also responsible for the council newsletter and
the website.
John Zammit Montebello is married to
Caroline nee' Vassallo and has two children, George
aged 15 and Andrew aged 11. He is a Medical practitioner,
President Balzan Youths F.C. and Coordinator S.A.T.U.
Joseph Mary Galea was born on the
14th August 1949. He was educated at St Albert the
Great college in Valletta.
Joe contested the local council elections in 2005
and 2008 and both times was elected as Deputy Mayor.
He was a member of the sub-committee for Education
and Social Policy before being elected to the Balzan
Local Council in 2005 and was involved in the organisation
of social activities such as Lejla Valentina, Lejla
Balzanija and as a producer with Radio Valentine. He
had to retire after a bad accident after serving for
33 years in various government departments and in the
Education Ministry .
During the past legislature he was responsible for
the organisation of activities and cleansing, the newsletter
and the council maintenance team.
Joe is the Chairman of the sub-committee
responsible for Maintenance and Activities and within
his responsibility fall the cleansing contracts, streetlighting,
the supervision of the workers attached to council including
their attendance and maintenance works.
He is married to Mary Grace nee Farrugia
and father of four children, two boys & two girls
and grandfather of one child, a boy.
Trevor
De Giorgio was born on the 2nd of June 1980.
He was educated at Stella Maris School Balzan, St. Aloysius
College secondary school and sixth form, B’Kara, the
University of Malta where he graduated as a lawyer in
Novermber 2006 and L’Universita degli Studi di Roma
La Sapienza where he studied Private European Law.
Trevor De Giorgio was actively involved in student
politics throughout his University years where he held
the position of Public Relations officer within the
Christian Democratic Student Organisation SDM as well
as being the Student Union’s (KSU) Education Co-ordinator
during his fifth year at University. Trevor was also
elected from amongst his peers to represent them on
the University Senate for two years. He contested the
Local Council Elections for the first time in 2008
and was elected.
Trevor De Giorgio previously worked as a parliamentary
assistant in the European Parliament in Brussels and
is currently working in a local law firm.
Trevor is the Chairman of the sub-committee responsible
for Social Policy, Education, the Environment and EU
together with the Mayor. The sub-committee is also
responsible for the council newsletter and the website.
Trevor De Giorgio is engaged to Adela
Cachia.
John
Cassar was born in 1956 in Valletta. He was
educated at the Lyceum and qualified as an Electrician.
He occupies the post of Secretary at the Marija Annunzjata
Filarmonika Band Club and Assistant Secretary at the
local Labour Party Centre. We works with a local wine
producing company as Head of Maintenance.
John is the Chairman of the sub-committee “Locality
Forum” a sub-committee made up of members nominated
by local organisations.
He is married to Miriam nee` Debono
and has two children Edmond who is 25 and Charlotte
who is 16.
Guido
Borg was born in Balzan on 30th March, 1944.
He was educated at Lija/Balzan Primary School, the Lyceum,
and at the University of Malta where he obtained a Bachelor
of Arts degree in History and Maltese. Later he obtained
a Diploma in Educational Administration and Management.
(D.E.A.M.). Guido was employed as a teacher in the Education
Division and was promoted to Head of School. He retired
from the Public Service in 2005.
Guido first contested the Local Council Elections
in March 2008 and was elected. He has been a member
of the Sub Committee for Education and Social Policy
for the last fifteen years. He was also involved in
various voluntarily activities held in Balzan. In
1967 he formed the Balzan Civic Committee and later
on the Editorial Board for the publication of the newspaper
“Balzan”. He was also very active at the St. Gabriel
Band Club, where he held the position of Hon. Secretary
and President respectively. Guido is also interested
in the history of Balzan.
Guido is the Chairman of the sub-committee responsible
for the Elderly and the sub-committee responsible for
Enforcement and Complaints.
Guido is married to Jane nee’ Calleja
and has two daughters.
